Life after NSIT

Hi there its been a long i mean really long since i last updated my blog. It is thanks to my friend Vairavan that i am updating my blog. He coaxed me into finding time and updating my blog so here i am doing the same.

For the uninitiated i finished my B.E. in may 2009 and on 5august 2009 i left for Amreeka to pursue my masters from University of Southern California. To mention the very least the months of June and July were pretty taxing not only physically and emotionally as my maternal grandfather passed away. I wouldnt like to elaborate on his passing away as if i do so i would be unable to continue any further secondly i wouldnt want the occassional reader who visits my blog leave with a sad memory after reading my blog as it would defeat the very purpose of my blog. In 1 line i would like to say i will miss my maternal grandfather.

Its been more than 2 months since i have been here and i think i am still becoming accustomed to life here. The ride here has been filled with fun and pain. Fun yes because i get to meet new people from different nationalities on a daily basis and the pain is because i am away from my parents and friends. Yes i know what will be the next few questions in your mind so i will try my best to answer them. Yes i have visited a few places i have been to santa monica beach and to san deigo. In san deigo i even watched a baseball game it was fun as people here support the teams very passionately in other words the experience of watching a game in the stadium is pretty different you will get what i mean only if you come here and watch any sport in the stadium.

Los Angeles in general is a good place to be i mean nice weather and with all the entertainment industry here loads of places to visit for eg Las Vegas, Beverly Hills, Universal Studios etc etc. People here are friendly or it could be that people in US are generally friendly. But the area around USC is shitty i mean pretty boring i mean you have to go some distance to enjoy so you either need a car or you should use the public transport which is not that good either plus the neighbourhood is not that safe at night so all in all it does give you a bad feeling once in a while but nothing that cant be handled.

Now for the food hmm i must say i have been blessed with good roomates as 2 of them cook pretty well. Since the time we have been here we have cooked aloo paranthas, chhole, rajma, mix veg, shahi tofu(american version of paneer), dals, butter chicken, mutton, poori, rice and its variants. So all in all we do get to eat nice food. Plus there are lot of indians living in my building so we tend to cook together sometimes.

Almost every friday is a frat party in our building as 10 of us have dinner together and we generally cook butter chicken or some variant of chicken. Then we have it together sometimes we do invite some of our friends over for dinner so i hope you get the drift. In 1 go we end up finishing 40 chapatis or paranthas.

Well there have been some funny moments since i have been here in the US though i dont have the energy to write a post on them individually but will describe them briefly here. One of the fridays when i had cooked butter chicken and i was about to leave the room 3 (2 of them are guys and 1 is gal and they are durnk)people who come over and ask if we have food. We say yes and we let them in. I think one guy was pretty much in his sense and his girl friend was pretty drunk as she was dancing on songs of pink floyd which were running on my friends laptop and the other guy after entering left. I was heating up the chicken as it was in the fridge and she comes over and says she will have little and i am like sure but let me heat it up for you and she was ok with that. She went back in and was kissing her boyfriend on my friends bed and the thing was there were atleast 7 people on the room that time. Once chicken was heated up i gave her a chappati and chicken and she rolled it in the form of a roll or burrito and was trying to have it. She spilled some on the floor and i gave her the plate so that she doesnt spill properly i was wiping the floor and she asked my friends who cooked the butter chicken and they pointed towards me and she comes over and to my suprise she gives me a hug and thanks me for the meal. I didnt know what to say as i was in a state of shock but as they say alls well that ends well.

In all i have got hugged, frustrated on not getting my phone on time, submitted 6 assignements in a week, felt weird that people here cant understand my english at the pizza hut, seen some hot chicks dressed, been given a high fi by random drunk people walking on the street at night, i have been thanked almost 10 times a day for doing nothing even been thanked for paying my grocery bill as if they would let me take the groceries without paying all in all i get to see different things everyday would be almost impossible to document everything though here i am still trying.

PS: Sorry for the long post but i guess such a long break deserved a long post i am hoping i can update it on a more regular basis..
